Objectives: Scheduling theory and practical technology at production shops have made a remarkable progress in recent years. In particular, the importance of strategic scheduling as a key technology for the industries to develop is growing in the age of recent globalization and mega-competition. Also, in the recent IT revolution, the scheduling methodologies and theories not only in industry but also in services sector, such as Transport, Network or Health care, have been drawing great attention. Under these conditions, this symposium is planned for both domestic and foreign researchers to gather together and deepen mutual relationship through active discussions. In order to make this conference fruitful, we have two days to hold discussion freely. And it is also expected that the new prospect toward a Strategic Scheduling Technology, which aims to upgrade the various kinds of industries in the future, will be discovered. This is the fifth International Symposium on Scheduling and will be held in central Osaka. We are earnestly looking forward to your positive participation in this symposium.
